For years, we’ve all watched the MDA Telethons hosted by Jerry Lewis…But outside of that Labor Day Weekend event, how many of us really think about Muscular Dystrophy, ALS, or the other degenerative, life-destroying diseases MDA helps to fight? The mother of our own Devious Angel certainly thinks about it, and it’s a cause she fights hard for. In addition, MD has also touched the lives of several of our DJ’s, so when this opportunity came to our doorstep, myself and the Mojo staff immediately decided to get behind this.
For those of you who are long-time listeners to Mojo, you’ll remember the fund-raiser we did last year for Heather, helping her raise well over $700 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) in her quest to run the Seattle Rock N Roll Marathon. Well this year, we’re doing it all over again, but for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). We hope you’ll join us for the second annual Mojo Request-a-Thon.
Here’s how this works. Viki’s a wanted woman, and has until June 15 to raise her bail in order to get out of MDA Jail. We’ve all seen this before with The American Cancer Society, and their “arrest your favorite smoker” pledge drives…But now, with the internet, we can raise more money, and hopefully get it done before the cell door slams shut on this…Mostly…innocent lady. Just like last year, every dollar you donate gets you a request. So, it’s a win-win situation for everyone. MDA continues on their worthy cause, and you get to hear your favorite songs.
Mrs. Garrison has until June 15 to raise the funds, but as we did with LLS, we’ll have the request-a-thon a few days ahead of the deadline. In this event’s case, we’re shooting for Sunday, June 12. We’ll start at 3:00 PM East/19:00 UTC. As with LLS, once you make a donation, let me know how much you gave, and what songs you’d like to request. Myself or Rhonda aka Maria aka Devious Angel will confirm the donation with Viki…We’ll put your requests into the playlist. As with last year, requests will be played in the order received, so you’ll want to stick around and see what your friends wanted to hear. Also, if you guys give as you did last year, and a second part to the broadcast becomes necessary, we’ll announce a date at that time.
So from now until 1:00 AM East on June 12, let’s get those donations in! This deadline will give me time to do any last-minute touch-ups on the playlist after I get off-air on June 11. Any donations you make after that, we’ll play those requests on my next show, or, if need-be, in a second part to the request-a-thon broadcast.
I know times are economically challenging right now, but if you can spare a few dollars, do it. Maybe one less trip to Starbucks, or one less beer on your night out. It’s worth it to help save lives.
