It’s rough when your computer’s on its last legs and you simply can’t afford another one. It’s even worse when you’re a student, and you rely on your computer to do homework, do research for papers, and in many cases these days, to simply be able to participate in the mandated online portions of your classes. In many cases, you don’t have the option of a strictly offline class with no online components. Welcome to the 21st century, friends.
To top it all off, you have a state agency whose mission is to assist the blind in getting to work, whether through education or the finding of a job. In most cases, part of that assistance includes making sure you have the technology you need to succeed. Unfortunately, it would appear that MCB thinks a nearly dead computer is perfectly acceptable.
She, her boyfriend, her friends, and even her colleagues at Mojo Radio believe this to be unacceptable. None of us can afford to buy her said computer, but we figure perhaps if we put our heads and wallets together, maybe we can help this amazing lady on her way to success. We’re not shooting for luxury here, we’d just like something that’s not dead on arrival, or a week after purchase. Anything we purchase will be purchased direct from the factory, and include an on-site service warranty, including parts and labor. This is of course what she should have gotten when the state purchased
her current machine, but that didn’t happen.
After
reading this, big-box stores make us a little nervous.
Here’s the plan.
Around 2000-2002, when Paypal was first becoming a big-name player, we’d heard about a friend who had a site called Buy Me A Pint. Literally, he had a Paypal button up, and you could donate a few bucks, which he’d then convert to British Pounds, and, well, go to the bar and buy himself a few pints. Plenty of people would donate, making it so this gent could knock a few back without having to fund the entire night at the pub from his own pocket.
If people are willing to buy an online acquaintance beers, surely those of us who know Krista can help her on her way to a nice, new laptop of some variety.
Zoe, who many of you who listen to Mojo know as Devious Angel, came up with a brilliant idea to give donors who want it a bit of incentive to donate. The mojo radio management is expanding on it a bit. She suggested we do something similar to our past two request-a-thons…Basically, a dollar gets you a request. However, wes, station co owner has come up with a few additional incentives, which will be great if you’ve ever wanted to DJ, but don’t have the equipment or aren’t sure if you could do it on your own.
Donate $10: You get to co-host an hour on Mojo with Wes or another DJ of your choosing, provided they have the capability to bring in co-hosts and are agreeable to this. Regardless, you can for sure roll with Wes or Devious Angel, and probably Stickbear aka Shane. If you’re not up for the co-hosting gig, you get to pick a full hour of music on either wes’s Friday or Saturday night show.
$20 gets you 2 hours with which to co-host and help pick the music. Again, if you’re not necessarily interested in co-hosting, you may request a 2-hour block of music.
$30 gets you the entire shift as a co-host, whether it be 3 hours or 4.
And again, if you don’t necessarily want to be on-air, we’ll take either an empty shift, or one of wes’s shifts, and even if you don’t come on-air, you get to choose all the music we play for that show.
$50 will give you two co-hosting opportunities, or the option to choose the music for wes’s show two weeks in a row.
Even if you choose not to participate in the incentives, or if you choose to go above the $50 prize, your gifts are apreciated and valuable, and will improve Krista’s quality of life by allowing her to continue in school, do job searches, and in the end, to be successful.
How do I go about making a donation, you might ask?
It’s simple.
The button following this paragraph will take you to the necessary page where you can fill in an amount and send in your donation.
All donations will be tracked, and will as stated previously, go directly to Krista for the purpose of purchasing a knew machine.
Thank you for stepping up to the plate and helping out, your generosity is appreciated.
